the town could be known as the Gateway to the Corn Palace.
This "sleeping Mexican" theme is
common to a lot of Western motels. Never mind that Mitchell, SD
is more than a thousand miles from the Mexican border...
Both the Corn Palace Motel and Chef Louie's are still in business: The "Flamming Cabins" later became the "Flamingo Motor Court." The few remaining "Happy Chef"
statues are prime targets for pranksters. Gee, I can't
imagine why...

sweet little jackalope!
I thought English was the native language in these parts... A couple of the signs along Mitchell's
classic Main Street, en route to the Corn Palace. Radio station
KORN is based here, too...
